Frequently Asked Questions - All Things Wedding

Here are the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions by wedding couples…

Here are the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions by wedding couples…

“How many canapés do you recommend choosing?”

We recommend that you choose 3 of the canapés from our menu for your big day. There would be 2 of each option for every guest – so that’s 6 canapés per person.

“Can we have a choice menu, instead of one option for each course?”

Of course! However, there would be a slight supplement for this. If you would like a choice menu, we recommend you give your guests s choice of two options for each course.

“Do you cater for dietary requirements?”

Yes, we do cater for any dietary requirements that your guests may have. We ask that you let us know all dietary requirements 21 days before your wedding day.

“Do we have to choose options from your menus or can we have something different?”

Of course not! We love to work up new menus and new ideas, so we welcome anyone that wants to do something a little bit different. Let us know your ideas and we will work with you to create something unique.

“How does it work for vegetarians; do we pick an alternative?”

If you know that a lot of your guests are vegetarian, a member of the wedding party or even yourself are vegetarian then we are happy for you to choose the vegetarian alternative. However, we are also more than happy to suggest something that would go along nicely with the meat options chosen.

“What is included in the price?”

All cutlery, crockery, linen & food service staff are inclusive in the menu price per person. If you take a drinks package from us then the glassware & drinks servers are included in the price per person. If you choose to pay corkage instead, then this fee covers the costs of glassware & drinks servers. There is only an additional fee for set up staff.

“What are your charges for your cash bar?”

We do not have any charges for our cash bars – the costs of set up, glassware and bartenders are covered by the takings.

“What does a tasting involve? What’s included?”

For your tasting we suggest choosing a couple of options for each course to try. This is a chance for you to be able to tweak the dishes slightly if you want. If providing your own drinks then some people like to bring some along with them to see how well they go with the food. However, if you are taking one of our drink’s packages – we can get some samples in for you! The tasting also gives us a chance to have a chat about how you see the day going, if there is anything specific you would like or want us to know, etc.

“Can we have espresso martini’s after dinner?”

You certainly can! We have found that serving espresso martini’s after dinner with tea & coffees always goes down a treat!

Wedding Venues

Just engaged and needing some venue inspiration? We have worked at a number of wedding venues across Scotland - here are some of our favourites…

Just engaged and needing some venue inspiration? We have worked at a number of wedding venues across Scotland - here are some of our favourites:

Myres Castle - Auchtermuchty, Fife, KY14 7EW

We are one of the preferred caterers at Myres Castle and we love working with Henry and his team – who we can ensure will take impeccable care of your every need during your stay. Our directors, Claire and Russell, got married here so it is always nice to be asked back.

The castle has various links to royalty and is full of Scottish history. Myres is an exclusive use venue meaning it’s yours for the entire weekend to enjoy the celebrations with up to 20 of your close friends and family.

There are various spots on the property to hold your ceremony - The Applestore can seat up to 120 guests and is a beautiful indoor rustic space. For larger ceremonies and when the weather is kind there are a number of locations in the stunning gardens at Myres Castle to say your vows. Your guests can then explore the gardens and maze with a glass of fizz and canapés.

You will then enjoy your Wedding Breakfast in the purpose built Barnquee that can seat up to 150 guests. This is an enchanting space set in a woodland area of the property surround by foliage and fire pits. After the meal you will enjoy some tea & coffee – or espresso martini’s – in The Applestore, to allow the Barnquee to be turned around for you to dance the night away!

Dunglass Estate, Cockburnspath, TD13 5XF

Dunglass Estate is going through major renovations and we are delighted to have been asked to join them as one of three preferred caterers!

The estate is situated in East Lothian and has been owned by the Usher family for four generations. The grounds are home to several cottages which can accommodate a total of 26 guests. There is also a stunning 15th century church in which you can hold your ceremony. The current renovations see a purpose-built pavilion to seat up to 200 guests and a reconstruction of the stables for smaller parties.

We are excited to see the final outcome of the Dunglass renovations and get underway with some weddings already booked for summer 2020 and 2021.

Falside Mill, Kingsbarns, KY16 8PT

Falside Mill is brand new venue surrounded by beautiful scenery, just a 10-minute drive from St Andrews. With a few weddings booked here for 2020 we popped along to their open day recently! We were taken aback by the work that has been done to create this stunning farm steading style venue.

Falside describe themselves as an ‘exclusive use blank canvas venue’ meaning that you can decorate the space exactly the way you want it for your special day – even down to the furniture!

There are a number of rooms in this rustic venue which can be used for a variety of things. First up, the Mill Ring, this is a bright space that can be used as a drink’s reception area or small ceremonies of up to 40 guests. Next we have the Reception Room – this space can seat up to 160 guests for your ceremony and can also be used for your wedding breakfast for a more intimate feel. The Reception Room also looks out onto a stunning courtyard that can be used for your drink’s reception and later on to enjoy some nice weather! The Main Hall has a capacity of 250 guest and is a beautiful blank space full of natural light. This is where large wedding breakfasts would be held and also where you will dance the night away. The venue also has a Chill Out Room which you can use to get ready or later in the night to escape the music.

We are looking forward to seeing this venue in full action at one of their first weddings in January 2020.

Nick and Anna’s Thai Feast

This summer we worked with one of our wedding couples, Anna & Nick, to create their very own Thai-inspired menu…

This summer we worked with one of our wedding couples, Anna & Nick, to create their very own Thai-inspired menu! The day was a mash up of Thai, Chinese, Polish and Scottish traditions. With Nick being from a Thai/Polish background and his mother owning Thai restaurants, it was very important to them that the menu was spot on and brought out some traditional Thai flavours. Here was the delicious menu that we served up on the day at Myres Castle –

Starter sharing boards:

(Yam Neua) Warm beef salad

Prawn/Vegetable Skewers with peanut sauce

Chicken wings in honey, soy & chilli

Choice Main Course:

Thai fish grilled in banana leaf

OR

Fishermans-style chicken

 Served with sharing sides of:

Asian Veggies in oyster sauce

Rice

Thai prawn crackers

Dessert:

Profiteroles with a pandan custard, passionfruit curd & mango sorbet

The meal was a big hit with the guests, with Anna commenting on our Instagram post from the day:

“It was everything we dreamed, drooled for and more – thank you so much for going beyond the brief and bringing our Thai feast to life! The feedback was incredible ❤️👌🏻🇹🇭🥢”

Picture 2.png

A snapshot of some of the other traditions on the day – First up, a Chinese Tea ceremony before guests were seated for dinner. This Chinese tradition involved the Bride and Groom serving tea to their elders to show their respect. Secondly, as Nick’s dad is from Poland, instead of the western tradition of toasting speeches with a glass of fizz – Nick decided that he wanted to toast his speech with a shot of Polish Cherry Vodka from a mini copper cup. Last but by no means least, with Nick & Anna both studying at The University of St Andrews they decided to name their tables after places in the famous Scottish town – “Starfields”, “Jannettas” and “Castle Sands” were just a few!

The evening then got into full swing and just like the Wedding Breakfast the evening food went down a treat – who doesn’t love pizza!! Myres Castle have a wood fired oven, which is always a favourite by couples looking to do something a little bit different from the traditional bacon rolls, pies, etc.

All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed working with Nick, Anna and their families to create this unique menu and cannot wait to see what more interesting menu’s we will be creating this wedding season!
